In honor of Women’s History Month, The Ones to Know sat down with Desire Lacap, a content creator, editor and director of photography. Read about what drives her work, how she fostered her online community and where she finds inspiration.
How did you get started with content creation?
Back in 2021, I started Soul Speaking Sessions, a little ritual where I’d take myself out on solo sunset or sunrise dates, sip on a hot tea and just hit record and speak. I’d pour my thoughts out, reflecting on the lessons I gained from my shadow work, the tough moments and the ways I was learning to find light in them. I wanted my stories to remind others that they weren’t alone in their struggles, that there will always be light shining — especially within.
Over time, I realized storytelling wasn’t just something I did to process my own experiences — it was something I deeply loved and valued. I found myself wanting to dive even deeper into the craft of filmmaking, so I shifted towards creating educational film tips and tricks. Breaking things down and teaching others actually helped me sharpen my own skills, from shooting and editing to understanding the art of bringing an idea to life on screen.
When I first started, I was posting on TikTok every single day for over a year. But just last year, I felt the pull to dive deeper into long-form content. Creating for YouTube comes with its own challenges, and I think people often underestimate just how much effort, time and planning goes into it. It’s pushed me creatively and given me a new way to tell stories.
How has your background in shooting, directing and editing translated into content creation?
Storytelling has always been at the core of everything I create. I’ve always been drawn to capturing emotions, moments and the energy of an experience. Content creation became my way of translating what I see in my mind, what I feel in my heart and what sets my soul on fire into something visual that others can connect with.
Some of my most valuable experiences came from just grabbing my camera and heading outside to film with no plan. Those spontaneous shoots helped sharpen my eye and allowed me to experiment freely without rules or restrictions.
I’m now discovering the best way for me to combine both content creating and filmmaking. Filmmaking isn’t just about telling stories in a traditional sense, it’s about expressing the things that can’t always be put into words. It’s a way to share my perspective without always having to explain it outright.
But beyond just expression, content creation became a way for me to carve out my own opportunities. I didn’t wait for permission to create — I just started. Every project, every edit, every new technique I pick up adds to my understanding of filmmaking. It’s a never-ending process of growth and that’s what excites me the most.
Did you always envision yourself creating this meaningful, educational space for your followers?
I wanted to create a safe space — somewhere people could pause, even if just for a few seconds or minutes, and feel something. Whether it’s through storytelling, visuals or sharing my experiences, my goal was always to connect, to offer a moment of reflection or even just a spark of inspiration. I wanted people to see that they weren’t alone in their struggles and that there’s power in embracing the unknown.
Over time, this space naturally evolved into something more educational. It's not just about teaching filmmaking or sharing tips, it’s about encouraging people to trust themselves, to embrace their own creative process and to find meaning in whatever path they’re on. And if my filmmaking style and content can be even a small reminder of that, then I know I’m creating something worthwhile.
What does the community you’ve fostered online mean to you?
The community I’ve built online means everything to me. It’s more than just numbers or engagement — it’s a space filled with like-minded creatives, storytellers and dreamers who inspire me just as much as I hope to inspire them. The comments that people leave on my videos continue to fuel the passion I have and spark my soul in ways that are indescribable. Whether it’s someone resonating with my words, learning from my filmmaking tips or simply finding a moment of inspiration, that connection is what drives me to keep creating. Knowing that my content can play even a small role in someone’s creative journey is something I’ll never take for granted.
What inspires you? How do you tap into your creativity?
Honestly, inspiration comes from everywhere: the world around me, the experiences I go through, the challenges, the lessons and the growth that comes with them. Every moment, good or bad, holds something valuable, and that’s what fuels my creativity. Writing every morning has become my way of tapping into not just my creative side, but also my inner world. It helps me process my thoughts, reflect and turn emotions into something tangible.
The people around me also play a huge role in inspiring me, whether it’s the women in film paving their own way, the creatives who push past self-doubt and make things simply because they believe in themselves or the artists who tell stories that truly need to be told.
And then, there are the quiet days. The ones where I take a step back, reflect, write and just be. Those moments of stillness are just as important as the busy, creative ones. They remind me to celebrate the small wins, to appreciate how far I’ve come and to refuel for whatever’s next. Creativity isn’t something I force, it’s something I tune into. And as long as I stay open to life, to learning and to the stories waiting to be told, the inspiration never really stops.
