Senior Account Executive, Thought Leadership - New York

Day One is looking for a Senior Account Executive / Account Manager with thought leadership and corporate communications experience to join our Public Relations team. Our team is growing rapidly, so you should be comfortable (and flourish) in a deeply dynamic environment. This hire will serve a vital role at Day One – whether you are supporting our client thought leadership work on behalf of our major consumer brand clients or executing strong media relations – we will depend on you for all things related to PR.

We are looking for a strong communications leader, mentor and project manager with the ability to multitask, self-motivate and strive for best-in-class results. The role is specifically acting as a day-to-day manager across thought leadership initiatives, developing and executing strong communications and media relations strategies. The right candidate will represent a strong mix of media relations, excellent writing skills, great attention to detail and an understanding of the quickly changing media and thought leadership landscapes. As part of the role, exposure to and interaction with senior executives on the client and agency-side will be a focus, giving the position great visibility.

This position is full time and is only available in New York City.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsibilities for this role will include serving as a day-to-day client lead and team manager who will be instrumental in developing and executing high-impact thought leadership and communications strategies that build and strengthen the reputation of our clients.


  • Client Relations: Key contributor or owner of client workstreams, projects and programs; Builds trust with client contact and teams; Professional demeanor; Able to analyze and contextualize information and begin to form strategic recommendations

  • Strategy & Execution: Supports with crafting both year-long thought leadership plans, as well as dedicated comms strategies around inbound client communications projects and initiatives. Keeping ongoing cadence of executive visibility opportunities — from preparing large- and smaller-scale speaking engagements to media interviews.

  • Account Management: Displays attention to detail across all team work product; reviews and finalizes materials; mentors junior team growth and development. Ability to manage both projects and budgets, plugging into scope and management decisions

  • Media Relations: Developing pitch plans and materials, briefing documents. Identifies appropriate media targets; Builds media relationships on behalf of the clients and agency; Owns media opportunities from start to finish

  • Social Strategy: Plugging into influencer relations and social strategies for brand executives

  • Writing Skills: Excellent writing and editing skills. Able to write and edit materials and provide direction to ensure quality control. Able to hone an executive’s voice and points of view, translating that to external communications narratives

  • Organizational, Tactical, and Communication Skills: Solutions oriented and understands how to best prioritize tasks or assignments; Demonstrates a high level of organizational skills; Meets deadlines; Sees projects through to completion; Great attention to detail; Confidence and competency in reviewing team work product; Articulates ideas succinctly and is comfortable with public speaking and presentations.

  • Measurement: Effectively analyzing and measuring campaigns, utilizing the right tools and services to measure and distill insights

  • Bridging Across the Agency: Works with peers to further the mission, goals and culture of the agency

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Strong media relations skills and deep relationships with relevant press and conference organizers

  • Expertise in written/verbal communications internally and externally

  • Ability to work/thrive in fast-paced environment while paying close attention to every detail

  • Excels in client relations and communicating with senior level, client-side executives

  • Self-motivated, proactive and deadline-oriented

  • Must be able to work — and thrive — in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness

  • Managing and mentoring junior staff

  • Project and budget management

  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, English, Public Relations or Marketing preferred

  • 3-6 years of relevant PR/thought leadership experience; agency/client experience is a plus
